5th Annual Ride Festival Drives In Pearl Jam

5th Annual Ride Festival Drives In Pearl JamThe announcement of the 5th Annual The Ride Festival brought an excitement to the town of Telluride, Colorado unlike that of prior years. With heavy hitters like Pearl Jam and Cage the Elephant, this years headliners brought the goods to the festival. The outdoor venue Town Park could be described as stunning, spectacular, epic... the list could go on. Words cannot do it justice.

For any diehard Pearl Jam fan, attending a PJ show is like a child waking up on Christmas morning to open their gifts Santa had left behind. The setlist changes for every show which kept the fans on their toes, and of course the great swag like limited edition event posters, shirts and other goodies gave the Pearl Jam fan special merch to tote home.

5th Annual Ride Festival Drives In Pearl JamDay 1 of the festival was all about Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam tee shirts everywhere, conversations between strangers comparing stories of what shows they have been to on this years unofficial 25 anniversary tour.

With the 11,500 capacity limit, the performance started with an intimate type feel. The first 45 minutes began with the band seated, opening with "Nothingman" followed by Mike McCready using a violin bow on his guitar on "Pendulum." Another treat for the festival goers was "Angel" which has not been performed in 22 years.

When the chairs and stools were removed, the full on rock concert began which kicked off the jams with fan favorites "Evenflow," "Daughter" and "Betterman" during the night. A local touch was bringing out on stage the two winners of a midweek Telluride 'Eddie Vedder' karaoke contest to join the band on vocals, which Eddie claimed to have surely placed a respectable 3rd place. After nearly 3 hours of musical brilliance, closing out the show with "Yellow Ledbetter" seemed the perfect song to leave floating in these Colorado mountains.

Big thanks to the Cara Pallone for setting this up for helping JAM Magazine with the media hook up. Hope to be back next year!

Sometimes you think you know somebody inside out and you don't. You become complacent. You take them for granted while they go on without you and become more than you knew they could be. And so it is with Pearl Jam and me. I believed I knew and loved them. I grew up with them. Eddie Vedder was like the hot, cool older brother of my friend that I secretly crushed on. On November 15, 2013 at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, I found myself in a thronging crowd of Pearl Jam fans and realized how lukewarm I was all those years. Read Review »

Eddie Vedder is a rock star. It's that simple.

He's an icon for a generation and Dallas' cross-section of that generation came out in full-force to welcome him after a ten-year absence. Vedder was last in North Texas with Pearl Jam in 2003 at what was then known as the Smirnoff Music Center. You got the feeling that most of this crowd was at that particular amphitheater show and perhaps even further back in time when the band performed at Trees or the Bronco Bowl, both venues Vedder mentioned later in the night. Read Review »

Pearl Jam
A documentary on the band Pearl Jam that marks their 20th anniversary in the year 2011.
Directed by Cameron Crowe

Pearl Jam has released a retrospective film of their career up to this point and its called PEARL JAM TWENTY that marks their 20th anniversary in the year 2011. 109 minutes.

As a fan, I was looking forward to this retrospective look at Pearl Jam’s 20-year career through the eyes of rock journalist, turned movie director, Cameron Crowe. His behind-the-scenes look at this Seattle group succeeds in delivering great live footage and a history of the band. Read Review »
