Matt Nathanson

It's a little chilly in the Houston area this particular February evening, but all those in attendance this evening at the House of Blues to watch Matt Nathanson perform are warming up to his fun-loving persona. Currently on tour with Kelly Clarkson, this Massachusettes native is doing a series of one-off solo shows during the tour supporting his latest release, Modern Love.

Nathanson's stage set is simple enough. There are a dozen guitars and a drum set up. You can't strip your music down any rawer than that. Tonight, the folk / rock singer put the crowd at ease almost immediately with a quip, or joke that started out with "This is about the Kardashians and how I'm sick of their shit." He had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hands after that.

With seven albums under belt, Nathanson did an excellent job creating a set list that was both uptempo and interesting. He played three excellent versions of songs by Prince, (Little Red Corvette"), Soft Cell ("Moderen Love") and George Michael ("Faith"). To keep the mood light, the singer joked with the audience throughout the night that had the assembled masses cheering. If his All Night Noise tour comes to a town near you, make sure you check him out.
